    Conflicted- or Money Makes People Funny

    I have a weird relationship with stuff. For the past 4 years I’ve been adamantly denying myself of things I want rather than things I need. In part it was out of necessity- when we moved to Cleveland we weren’t able to sell our house in Michigan and were some of the millions of Americans who ended up having to foreclose on our home. I was pregnant with Oswald in 2010/2011, the same year we had to declare bankruptcy which is essentially what you do when you foreclose on a home.     My heart is so easily trampled

    Demons make people do crazy things. Things like trample a man to death to get a good deal on a plasma screen TV at Walmart on black friday. Things like make people go into crazy amounts of consumer debt to buy gifts and keep the illusion that they aren’t financially strapped this Christmas. Things like stealing to provide Christmas presents for young kids, things going poorly and getting the death sentence for accidentally killing a man.     Take a look at this picture of Rembrant’s painting- “Christ in the storm on the Lake of Galilee.” I want you to notice all the different ways people are reacting in this painting. … In this biblical painting and in many others Rembrandt created, he painted himself into the scenes. Rembrandt went through terrifying storms in his own life- he lost his beloved wife, three of his four children died and he went bankrupt.
