Meet Jessica

Hi. I think we’re going to like each other. Why? Because my life mantra is “I want to be with cool people, doing cool things.” Let me assure you: you’re one of those people.  Why do I know that? Chances are you’ve stumbled upon my blog because you think following Jesus can be an amazing adventure filled with beauty, brokenness, a lot of laughter and people who teach you how to forgive, serve and persevere. You want something more than a polite Christianity or a boxed-in view of femininity.  You wear hiking boots and high heels and don’t see any dichotomy with the two. You want to wrestle with tough questions, challenge the stereotypes of what it means to follow Jesus, and live into the power God has given you as an amazing lady leader of badassery.

Life is better together. I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s hang out and see the cool places in life and faith where Jesus takes us.

Some cool things that I like:

The Great Lakes. I grew up on Lake Superior and am in a happy place anywhere on these inland seas. I have a soft spot in my heart for Lake Erie after living in Cleveland, OH for 5 years.

Books. A couple that I’ve really enjoyed include: N.T. Wright, particularly Surprised by Hope, Roxanne Gay’s Bad Feminist, Paula McLain’s The Paris Wife and Dr. Seuss’ McElligot’s Pool.

My family. I’m married to Dave and we live in Kansas City where we’re raising our two boys, Reuben and Oswald. We eat blueberry pancakes on Saturday mornings, build elaborate Lego robots and explore local lakes in our kayaks.

Dance Parties. I’m all about that bass. Put on a funky groove of the Commodores, Macklemore or Brittney and boom- a dance party will be on, even if it’s by myself.
