I like green smoothies, listing to music on vinyl and dancing with my husband and two-sons in our basement, putting a bird on it and baking bread. I also like telling people about Jesus- not in a creepy-robotic salesperson sort of way but in a “this cool thing happened with my friend the other day” sort of way. My husband came up with the phrase “evangelawesome” for a seminar I was leading for college students with InterVarsity Christian fellowship. Yes, It is totally a made-up word but it captures what I long for people- to realize that Jesus and his story are awesome! That sharing Jesus is like a shot of Holy Spirit adrenaline to the soul! That evangelism is having a ton of fun with Jesus and telling others about it. In Greek Evangel means good news, and evangelism means to share the good news with others.
Most people are super creeped out when they here the word evangelism and think- no way, not me, I’m not one of those kind of Christians. I’m the kind of Christian that wants to be known for what they’re for rather than what they’re against and the thing I’m primarily for is Jesus and the crazy adventure of following him. I love to tell stories, as they old hymn says: “the old, old story of Jesus and his love.” Here you’ll read about of what that looks like to freely, lovingly and powerfully speak about Jesus as a wife, mom, preacher, neighbor, friend, frugal fashionista and student.
Stories alone inspire but I also want you to live an evangelawesome life! You’ll find practical ways on a weekly basis to take a risk and trust Jesus as you share and live out your faith. Leave a comment to let this community know how God is moving in and through you!
When I’m not building Lego’s with my sons, trying to squeeze in a run or bake a loaf of bread I serve with InterVarsity Christian fellowship as a Regional Evangelism Coordinator in a 4-state region in the Midwest to preach the gospel, teach and train in churches and campus groups across the country. It’s pretty much my dream job. I love to help believers have a ton of fun with Jesus in his mission and talk with people who don’t follow Jesus about their spiritual questions. I live in Cleveland, Ohio with my husband and two sons and have absolutely no interest in Cleveland’s sports teams.
