13 women go to a cabin in Idaho to meet for the first time

I’m not setting the scene for the latest horror movie or describing a really strange online meet-up site- I’m telling you what I’m going to be doing this weekend.

Having just put out a book I feel the pressure to get my stuff out there. To speak. To tweet. To blog. The issue is that I just moved to Kansas City to take a new full-time job, have a husband who I like hanging out with and two really fun kids. Not so much a problem- but there are only so many hours in the day. And it can feel really difficult to be alone trying to get your stuff out there.

The solution? To take time off work to go to a cabin in Idaho with 10 other women- most of whom I’ve never met. For reals.

A couple months ago my friend Alex and I were talking about how it can feel yucky and awkward to promote yourself as a woman- as a speaker, writer, blogger- whatever. Wouldn’t it be better if we were about promoting each other? Helping each other get out there and linking arms to say YOU AREN’T ALONE in wanting to help make this world a more beautiful place with your words!!!

And thus, the Open Door retreat was created by the brilliance of Alex and Krista. Looking forward to updating you on the twitter/gram/book about what we’ll be doing as a crazy crew to encourage each other in our calling in life!
